The Giving Spirit of LeTip Mission Viejo
The best way to describe The LeTip Spirit is through stories such as the one sent to me by
Dan Abrams. Dan, a member of one of our oldest chapters, signed his email, "Proud President
LeTip Mission Viejo, CA.” I was deeply touched by this story and felt the holiday season was the
perfect time to share it with you! Kim Marie

Hi Kim Marie,
The new board for LeTip of Mission Viejo took over the reins on May 1st. Shortly after
that I received a call from our new treasurer who said that we didn’t have enough money in
our account to cover another breakfast, (let alone the five more breakfast meetings left in
the quarter). With 70 members, that meant we would be short over $6,000 by July 1st.
We immediately called a special board meeting and voted to:
1. Cut expenses.
2. Put a vote to the membership to increase our quarterly dues to $250.
3. Accept the offer of a few members to pay dues and advertising in advance to help
get us by another couple weeks.
At our next chapter meeting, our vice-president, Frank Helring gave a report on how
and why we had gotten into this position. We had moved to a new location two years previously
and the chapter had been absorbing the increased meal costs. This was verified by
our new treasurer, Sara Nagel, who also explained that we needed to raise dues from $195
a quarter to $250.
As the chapter’s president, I took the podium and reported that as new board members,
we had been unaware of the financial situation, but now agreed that we needed to act
upon it.
After a minute or two of silence, a member asked a question and discussion began.
The consensus was that the members, especially in this economy, did not want an increase
in dues and would prefer a modest continental breakfast.
Then the LeTip Spirit kicked in. Clifford Sims, a Bio-Chem Distributor, stood up and
said, “Let’s pass our Tip bucket around the room and see what we can collect today.”
Cliff dropped in a $100 bill to start it rolling.
George Lehman of NuSkin wrote a $250 check and put that in the bucket. I said that I
would match the highest contributor, which was George’s $250. Then Joe Locricchio of
Tony’s Pepperoni Pizzeria, volunteered to host an entire year of Lunch Bunches which took
$2,000 off our budget!
The giving continued. Benny Samaniego of Benny's Carpet Cleaning got up and asked
me, “If I put in $1500, will you match it?” Benny continued, "I have been in our LeTip family
for over 20 years, and I love our group." Then Benny handed me $1500! I've always believed
that if you make a promise, even if it costs you money, you must keep it. With that I
matched Benny’s $1500.
By the end of the meeting every member had contributed to a sum that added up to
over $6,000.
I feel so blessed to be part of LeTip Mission Viejo. It is a true family. This shows how
LeTip works and is an example of our dedication to one another. With our energy, I can only
see our members excel.
